The Powerpuff Girls: The Brains Behind it All

Cassy, Kara and Marie are a Senior Design Team in the Biological Systems Engineering department at UC Davis. The team won an award at the ASABE section meeting in February 2013 for Best Poster Presentation. In June of 2013 they were awarded the Sandia National Laboratories Design Award at the UC Davis Engineering Design Showcase. They would like to thank Michael Delwiche, Tina Jeoh, Ruihong Zhang, and all the students in the Biological Systems Engineering major for their support and encouragement during this endeavor.

Cassy Gardner

Controls Engineer, Banks Integration

 

Cassy Gardner graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Biological System Engineering in June of 2013. While at UC Davis, she worked in the Jeoh Lab for three years assisting with research in the area of biofuels. She is currently employed at Banks Integration as a Controls Engineer. Cassy completed an oral presentation at the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Conference covering this project. In May of 2013, she was honored with a Citation for Outstanding Performance in the Department of Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology for her taxidermy work at the UC Davis Wildlife Biology Museum. Cassy would like to thank her family and her EBS and WFCB mentors for all of their support.

Kara Johnson

​Bioengineering PhD Candidate, UC San Diego 

Kara Johnson graduated from UC Davis with a dual BS in Genetics and in Biological Systems Engineering in June of 2013. She will be attending the Bioengineering PhD program at UC San Diego in fall of 2013. Kara presented a poster at the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Conference covering this project. In June of 2013, Kara was honored with departmental citations in both the UC Davis Department of Genetics and the UC Davis Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Kara would like to thank her extended, but close, family and her incredible friends for all their support.  ​​​

Marie West
Controls Engineer, Banks Integration

Marie West graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Biological Systems Engineering in December of 2013. She presented a poster at the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Conference covering this project. During her time at UC Davis she worked as a research assistant at Vitapath Genetics studying the relationship between Spina Bifida and maternal folic acid pathways. Currently, Marie is employed as a Controls Engineer at Banks Integration. Marie would like to thank her amazing family and friends for their continued support.
